Dean of Students Series: Part 3

BIO - Mr. Brady

Mr. Brady received a Bachelor of Arts in Classics from Middlebury College during which he had the opportunity to study abroad at Cambridge University. He then completed a Masters of Arts in Ancient Culture, Religion, and Ethnicity at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver.

He joined BASIS Independent Silicon Valley in 2015 as part of the founding faculty. He spent three years in the World Language department teaching Latin, then spent two years teaching in the Monterey Bay Area, before returning home to BASIS Independent Silicon Valley (BISV) as a member of the administration.

As the Dean of Students for grades 10-12 and the Senior Projects Coordinator, Mr. Brady is an integral part of the Student Support Team. He offers workshops and both emotional and academic support to high school students, and acts as an advisor to our seniors who choose to participate in the Senior Project. Mr. Brady can often be found engaging in spirited discourse with students, and is always available for a lunchtime board game tournament.

Dean of Students Series: Part 2

Angkham, Che

Ms. Angkham received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Cultural Anthropology from San Jose State University. While pursuing her academics, she also helped build schools in Mexico, provided Katrina Relief to residents of New Orleans, and presented at various academic conferences throughout the country.

After college, she found her love of teaching and was a classroom teacher for grade 1 and grades 5 - 8. After a decade of being in the classroom, she’s ready for her next adventure: supporting students’ academics and overall well-being as a Dean of Students!

“I love that BASIS Independent Silicon Valley provides the students with so many opportunities,” she says, “and I’m so excited to be a part of their developmental years in which they are learning, growing, and becoming wonderful human beings.”

Dean of Students Series: Part 1

Kaminski, MonicaMs. Kaminski graduated from SUNY Plattsburgh in Plattsburgh, New York, with a Bachelor of Arts in History where her focus was on human rights. Later, she received her Master of Science degree in Professional School Counseling from Sage Graduate School in Troy, New York.

As Dean of Students for Grades 5 - 7 at BASIS Independent Silicon Valley, her goal is to inspire and help students discover the skills they need in order to be successful. She enjoys working at BASIS Independent Silicon Valley because teachers, staff, and students are excited to be here, “The overall environment is very welcoming and fun!” In addition, she appreciates that the culture of the school is to engage students in learning and to celebrate their achievements.

Her educational philosophy is the one that reflects the whole child approach, “I believe all students should be in a learning environment that promotes and encourages inclusiveness, safety, engagement, but also challenges.

Beyond the Microscope: Bringing the Sciences to Life Through Labs & Experiments (Part 3 of 3)

In this new three-part series, we take a look inside some of our Science Labs for a glimpse into how teachers are creatively demonstrating lessons about various topics, such as blood spatter, DNA isolation, Newton’s Laws and…elephant toothpaste!

In part one of our series, Ms. Elizabeth Holve gave us a glimpse into a few of her Middle Grades biology labs, such as growing mold. Our second installment featured Dr. Anuradha Murthy’s Upper Grades biology lab where DNA isolation was one of many interesting experiments. For our third and final installment of this series, we check in with Dr. Simon Hale’s Physics and Advanced Placement (AP) Physics classes for a taste of the personal flavor that he adds to each of his labs.
