In what is an unparalleled achievement in the annals of American educational assessment, the top five high schools in the United States are BASIS Curriculum Schools, as are six of the nation’s top eight, and seven of America’s top fourteen, according to U.S. News & World Report’s “America’s Best High Schools” 2018 rankings.
BASIS Curriculum Schools is no stranger to making the news—whether its large scale recognition for its academic program or stories of the differences our students make volunteering in and supporting their local community. We make a point to share these stories out with families and readers, but want to highlight some of the most recent news.
The past several weeks have been particularly exciting for our schools—with our Silicon Valley campus’ full profile in Business Insider, a piece announcing the newest Thailand campus, and CNBC’s profile of the best high schools in the country (surprise: BASIS Curriculum Schools occupy the first three spots as well as #5 and #7). The stories are exciting in perpetuating the high performance of legacy at BASIS Curriculum Schools campuses and signify a carving out of a path for new, exciting traditions of excellence.
According to results released by the College Board, 2 out of 7 grade 9 National AP Scholars in the entire world are students at BASIS Independent Silicon Valley.
The past couple of weeks have been monumental for our entire network of schools, not only with the start of the 2016-17 school year for BASIS Independent Silicon Valley, but with the opening of our two newest schools, BASIS Independent McLean and our feeder school BASIS Independent Fremont.
It is times like this when we reflect on how powerful it is to be part of a network, and times like this when we more than ever turn to Vectors, the BASIS.ed news site bringing you fresh inspiration and insights from the depths and far reaches of the BASIS.ed community.

Here are some highlights from stories this summer:
We have just one story this June coming to us from Vectors, but it is a story we're very excited about, and one that is sparking quite a conversation:
Where will your children be when the 'education bubble' bursts?
This week, BASIS.ed was featured in a Bloomberg View article written by Amity Shlaes titled "Bursting the Great American Bubble: High School." Likening perception and value of education to a commodity or stock bubble, Ms. Shlaes writes that BASIS.ed schools offer a "reality check" for American high schools, which are "not great.... [or] even good." The author points to assumptions about school and what school should be that we've "ruthlessly dumped...that the education establishment has considered un-dumpable."
At BASIS Independent Schools, we strive to provide families, fellow educators, and anyone who is curious, with ample opportunities to learn more about who we are, why we do what we do, what it results in, and why it matters.

We are, after all, a fairly unique family of schools. With different types of BASIS.ed-managed schools all around the country, you might not know where to "start" in your search for information. Though many of us are far away from one another, we are united by the common threads of an unparalleled curriculum in both breadth and depth, and a culture driven by our insatiable desire - as students and educators - to constantly grow, improve, and be the best version of ourselves we can be.

During Prospective Parent Information Sessions, we are often confronted with a variety of questions that range from the more operational “easy to answer” questions, such as class size, to those philosophical questions that give us pause, that stick in the back of our minds long after we’ve said goodbye to the last lingering few guests.
Inspired by the blissful feeling of uncovering connections, our blog Eureka! Silicon Valley is about sharing moments that capture the essence of what it is to be a BASIS Independent student, teacher, administrator, or family.
