Parent FAQ Series: "I have the option to apply this year for grade 5, or next year for grade 6. What is the benefit of applying for grade 5?" We've had many parents ask this question when they attend our admissions events, and we are excited to explore the answer in depth!
The transitional years in middle school, set between foundational learning in elementary school and subject mastery in high school, can sometimes be seen as the lost years of education. However, these are the years where independence truly develops and where students can prepare for future academic settings.
At BASIS Independent Silicon Valley, our Middle School Program begins in grade 5. There are distinct advantages to transitioning your child directly into grade 5 versus waiting until a later grade, and those students who join us earlier often see tremendous success in our middle and high school programs. Because the intermediate years of middle school are critical, beginning as soon as possible is essential for a comfortable and easy transition.

Early and Regular Admissions
This year, we have two admissions cycles: Early and Regular Admissions.
Early Admissions is only open for Grade 5-7 while Regular is for grades 5-10.
What's the difference between Early and Regular Admissions?
Early Admissions allows you to receive an admissions decision this fall versus next spring. If you apply in Early Admissions and your child(ren) is accepted, and you decide to enroll, your private school search is completed by December instead of March! In Regular Admissions, families are notified of an admissions decision in March, which aligns with decisions from other private schools.

This application season continues with excitment as Bay Area families seek out an advanced STEM-focused liberal education brought to life by passionate, dedicated subject experts.
Outlined below are the top five admissions questions we have received this season and some of which may guide you through our application process.
1. Is there still space available?
Yes - and more classes are being added! To accommodate rising demand, we have added additional classes for grades 5 - 10. By adding more classes, the student-to-teacher ratio becomes more balanced. We invite you to join our community.
2. When is the application deadline?
The online application is due by Wednesday, January 21, 2015. Visit our Admissions page to learn more about the application process and to apply for the 2015-2016 school year.
3. When are application materials due?
In our regular admission cycle, report cards/transcripts and teacher recommendation letters are due on or before Friday, February 27, 2015. For more information about application materials, please visit our Admissions page.
