BASIS Independent Summer proudly welcomes Victoria Rodrigue as Principal for the 2015 Silicon Valley summer program. Victoria is currently the Dean of Students for grades 6 - 8 during the academic school year and is thrilled at the opportunity to infuse her passion into our summer program. “Summertime is the perfect opportunity for students to explore new disciplines or expand their knowledge of familiar concepts and I could not be more excited to spend my summer with your children in this important pursuit,” she says.
Ms. Rodrigue received her Bachelors in Arts from The College of the Holy Cross in 2007 with a degree in Music and German Studies. A top student throughout her college career, she was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa and awarded a Fulbright Scholarship. Ms. Rodrigue spent her Fulbright year at the University of Vienna in Austria where she began her rewarding career in education as an English teaching assistant at two Viennese high schools.
Following her year abroad, Ms. Rodrigue received a Master’s Degree in Musicology from the University of Michigan—Ann Arbor, where she also taught music history, ethnomusicology, and ethnography classes. She made her move to the Bay Area in 2010 where she continued as a graduate instructor at Stanford, from where she also pursued her PhD in Musicology. Shortly afterwards, she became part of the BASIS Independent Silicon Valley family.
Ms. Rodrigue knows first-hand that pursing academics and your personal interest with rigor is what makes life most interesting and fulfilling. When she’s not in the classroom, Ms. Rodrigue loves surfing and skateboarding and can be found in the lineup in Santa Cruz at the Hook, Sharks, or 38th Avenue. In addition to her passion of surfing, Ms. Rodrigue also enjoys wilderness backpacking, mountaineering, and rock-climbing.
