Team spirit was absolutely bursting at our third annual Field Day on June 3, with students sporting their multi-grade team t-shirts. Students in PreK–grade 7 enjoyed a fun-filled day of team-building activities, including javelin throw, fastest to complete the course, dress relay, tug-of-war, sponge throw, and many more.
We are excited to announce the addition of a Red-Tailed Hawk head graphic to our BASIS Independent McLean mascot family!
To celebrate the Year of the Pig, BASIS Independent McLean hosted an all-school Lunar New Year celebration on Sat., Feb. 9. Kindergarten through grade 4 and upper school students performed a variety of skits, songs, dances, and kung fu demonstrations in honor of Chinese culture. Mandarin teachers Ms. Li, Ms. Tozzi, and Ms. Wang directed the performances. Following the program, the community enjoyed traditional Chinese food thanks to the generosity of many parents.

As Independence Day, an iconic American holiday, draws near, we are looking back on all the amazing cultural celebrations on campus throughout our 2017-18 school year. At BASIS Independent McLean, our community is enriched by the multitude of cultures and traditions that our families celebrate.
Our campus is usually filled with Red-Tailed Hawk pride, but on June 8, BASIS Independent McLean was filled with support for the red, hot pink, light green, yellow, and eight other colored teams. In our second annual Field Day, students were divided into multi-grade teams to participate in fun group activities.
Inspired by the blissful feeling of uncovering connections, our blog Eureka! McLean is about sharing moments that capture the essence of what it is to be a BASIS Independent student, teacher, administrator, or family.
