It is hard to believe that the 2021-2022 school year is done. This year, everyone came back to campus, from wearing masks to mask-free, and life went back to the normal that we hoped. On the academic hand, from science and math to drama and our own house system, our students of all ages accomplished a lot in the spring of 2022. Below we highlight their successes. BASIS Independent McLean theatre is back! After a year of pandemic safety protocols kept our theatre closed, more than 50 grades 4-12 students participated in our Drama Club's fall play, A Simpler Time for three sold-out shows on November 19, 20, and 21, 2021.
Though this school year was certainly different from previous years, it did not alter our students' perseverance, drive, or dedication to subjects, projects, clubs, and competitions they love. In March and April, students in primary, middle, and high school competed and were recognized in state science competitions.
The BASIS Independent McLean Middle School Science Olympiad team is headed to this year’s virtual state championships! The team has placed well in many competitions throughout the season, and the team's overall second place the February’s Regional Tournament secured their advancement to states.
We are proud to induct nine students into the newly recognized BASIS Independent McLean chapter of the Société Honoraire de Français (SHF), the French Honor Society. The inaugural SHF members joined six new members of our Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica, the Spanish Honor Society, in a joint in-person, socially distanced induction ceremony on Friday, January 22.

The 2019-20 school year was certainly an unprecedented one. A global pandemic disrupted BASIS Independent McLean’s final trimester and pushed the school to distance learning; however, from August to early March, students, staff, and families participated in a robust on-campus community.
