BASIS Independent Fremont's rising junior Heeya D. made a guest appearance on the TODAY SHOW this week during a segment where the Princeton Review's Rob Franek discussed college admissions and Advanced Placement Exams with Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush.
The development capped off a year where we saw some amazing accomplishments from students, particularly women in STEM, celebrated by local news. We wanted to share some select news reports and segments featuring students from across our campuses in California and New York to Virginia.
All of our 2020-2021 juniors and seniors earned an AP Scholar award, recognition from the College Board based on their performance on their 2021 AP exams. In addition, 80% of all high school students in grades 9-12 earned this recognition. These awards recognize students who have demonstrated both a depth and breadth of knowledge because their work has shown college-level mastery across multiple disciplines.
Nine seniors have been honored by the National Merit Scholarship Program.
The 2022 Niche school rankings are in and BASIS Independent Schools continue to soar! Since first established, the BASIS Independent Schools network has grown to six campuses—three of which have graduating classes—in locations across New York, Northern Virginia, the Bay Area, and the greater Seattle area. Just over five years later, campuses across our network have achieved impressive national recognition.
Félicitations! Gratulationes! Felicitaciones! Middle and high school students received honors based on their performance on a 2021 national language exam. Every student in grade 7 and above chooses a language (French, Latin, Mandarin, or Spanish) to study, and each April, our students participate in the national French, Latin, and Spanish exams, which are taken by students across the country. We are thrilled to see our students thrive in learning various languages.
Today, we recognize all our students below who received honors.
The BASIS Independent McLean Middle School Science Olympiad team is headed to this year’s virtual state championships! The team has placed well in many competitions throughout the season, and the team's overall second place the February’s Regional Tournament secured their advancement to states.
Though many things about fall 2020 were unfamiliar, our students continued to shine through clubs and contests that were held virtually. Here we highlight our students’ accomplishments from the first part of the 2020-2021 school year. Congratulations, Red-Tailed Hawks!
Eight seniors in BASIS Independent McLean’s Class of 2021 have been named Commended Students by the National Merit Scholarship Program. Approximately 34,000 students are recognized as Commended Students for their exceptional academic promise. They placed among the top 50,000 scorers of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2021 competition by taking the 2019 PSAT/NMSQT.
Inspired by the blissful feeling of uncovering connections, our blog Eureka! McLean is about sharing moments that capture the essence of what it is to be a BASIS Independent student, teacher, administrator, or family.
