Outside we’re still in the throes of winter, but here at BASIS Independent McLean we’re already ready and waiting for summer! Over seven weeks, BASIS Independent Summer offers numerous full and half day camps for boys and girls from age 3 to grade 12. Our program has a wide range of offerings for kids to have fun, get messy, and make new friends.
Here are five frequently asked questions to help you learn more about our program.
1. What's new this year?
For Summer 2019, we have expanded our offerings from last year! We are excited to offer full day and half day options for PreK students, and additional programs for students in grades 1-5 such as “Frozen” Wonders, Amazing Athletes.
For Grades 6-8, we offer several full day camp options such as Field Trip A Day, which gets campers off campus each day for a fun activity, and Murder Mystery, where campers get to solve a “real” mystery using forensic techniques. There are also for credit class options for BASIS Independent McLean students in grades 9-12.
2. Do you have full day options? Half day?
YES! We have both full and half day options for all grades.
For PreK & K, you can choose whether to enroll for a full day, morning only, or afternoon only. Full day campers will have a lunch and nap period.
For grades 1-5, most camps are half day camps and we encourage families who are looking for a full day experience to choose two camps. A supervised lunch period is provided for students enrolled in a morning and afternoon camps.
Grades 6-12 students have a variety of options, both full and half day. Please view all our camp and class offerings to see when each camp runs.
Please note that lunch is not included in any program. Students in full day programs must bring their own lunch
3. Do you have to be a BASIS Independent student to sign up?
For most camps, nope! Our program is open to BASIS Independent and non-BASIS Independent students. The summer program is a great way for current BASIS Independent families to continue their experience during the summer. Moreover, the summer program gives non-BASIS Independent families a chance to get to know our world class educators, work alongside our incredible students, and see our campus for the first time, whether they'll eventually consider applying to our school or not.
For-credit high school classes are for BASIS Independent McLean students only.
4. Do you have before and after care?
YES! Students in morning or full day programs may be dropped off starting at 8:30 AM.
After care, which we call Late Bird, will be offered from 3:30-5:00 PM for full day and afternoon campers in PreK-grade 8 for an additional fee of $75 for the week ($60 for July 1-5). Late Bird cannot be purchased on a daily basis.
Grades 9-12 students are permitted to remain on campus until 5 PM in our high school spaces.
5. Do I have to pay the entire program fee upon registration?
No! During our Early Registration period (February 1 – March 15) families will only submit a deposit when completing registration. We strongly encourage you to complete enrollment by March 15 as some classes fill quickly. During Early Registration, a 25% deposit is due, which includes a $25 per child non-refundable registration fee. Full payment must be received by April 10.
Rolling registration begins March 16. At this time, families may still register for summer programs, however, they may experience a higher chance of getting wait-listed for their desired activities. Rolling Registration will continue until two weeks prior to the start of a given class. During Rolling Registration, payment must be received in full at the time of registration, and a $25 per child non-refundable registration fee is included.
