This summer, we are excited to host four full-day camps for our youngest learners (age 4 through grade 2). These camps provide engaging hands-on activities for students to learn about new topics and physical activities through sports camps! First, we’re featuring Under the Sea, taught by our Kindergarten Expert Teachers Ms. Kimbrough and Ms. Moomaw. Read their full bios here.

Take a dive and discover life below sea level—no wetsuit required! In this camp, students will explore the plants and animals that make their home in the ocean. Through engaging, sensory-based STEM activities, students will engage in fun and meaningful  learning experiences together.

We spoke with Ms. Kimbrough and Ms. Moomaw to learn more about what to expect in this submersion into the deep blue sea:

Why are you excited to lead the Under the Sea camp this summer?

Who isn't intrigued by the sea? We love the ocean and all its hidden treasures. We chose to kick off our Early Learning Summer Program by exploring “under the sea” because there are so many fun, hands-on ways to connect with this topic. With all the various plants, animals, colors, and layers in our four oceans, there’s always something new to discover.

Why should a student sign up for this camp?

Under the Sea camp will give students a chance to learn about the ocean and all its vast beauty and mystery, from the different zones to its millions of inhabitants. Students who already love the ocean and its animal life will have the time of their lives learning new facts and working on fun projects, and students who are less familiar with the ocean will finish camp with new knowledge and passion for our underwater friends.

What are some examples of activities or lessons you have planned?

There are a ton of exciting activities planned for this week. We’re going to create a sensory bottle to show the various zones of the ocean. We will discuss the environmental impact of trash on our oceans as students make ocean art from recycled products. We will also be making a tasty under-the-sea-themed snack! And that’s just the beginning—we have an entire week of enrichment and fun in store.
