As the first day of our inaugural school year approaches, we're thrilled to unveil to you the team that will make up the founding faculty & staff of BASIS Independent McLean. We're pleased to introduce to you Rachel Darby, Kindergarten Teacher at BASIS Independent McLean.
Rachel Darby graduated from George Mason University in May 2009 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Integrative Studies, Concentration in Liberal Arts for Education, Pre-K–3rd Grade.
She joins BASIS Independent McLean with over 12 years of teaching experience in private school settings, noting that the “experience has taught me that each classroom embodies a community of diverse learners, which requires educators to incorporate multiple teaching methodologies.” Her goal at BASIS Independent McLean is to leverage these methodologies to promote an environment in which students learn to be inquisitive and curious, utilizing logic and their senses as tools for navigating through life.
Mrs. Darby places a strong emphasis on creative thinking and problem solving, preparing students to excel and succeed across all academic areas. She strives to create an engaging, fun, and supportive learning environment that enables each child to grow and flourish, ultimately preparing them to be successful and caring members of society.
Mrs. Darby enjoys photography, Zumba, and traveling with her husband. She has a passion for the arts and believes that every child is indeed an artist!
