As the first day of our inaugural school year approaches, we're thrilled to unveil to you the team that will make up the founding faculty & staff of BASIS Independent McLean. We're pleased to introduce to you Olivia Michalak, Subject Expert Teacher: Theatre.

Olivia Michalak is thrilled to be joining the founding faculty at BASIS Independent McLean as a Subject Expert Teacher in Theatre.  She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Rider University, where she double majored in Theatre Performance and English Literature with a minor in dance, and graduated magna cum laude in 2013.  She then moved to London, where she earned her Master of Arts degree from The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in 2014.  Returning to her native Worcester, Massachusetts in 2015, she became the full-time substitute teacher at Burncoat Middle School, while also teaching ballet technique at Greendale Dance Academy and acting at the Stoneham Theatre Company.

Specializing in theatre movement, Ms. Michalak’s teaching draws from a curiosity about using physicality to communicate a story.  She hopes that all of her students can use theatre and acting to become confident individuals who can joyfully express their ideas and form a creative community.  She chose to join BASIS Independent McLean to share her passion for the performing arts with dedicated students and faculty in an environment of encouragement and academic integrity.

Outside of class, Ms. Michalak enjoys taking dance classes, hiking, and finding new coffee shops.
