As the first day of our inaugural school year approaches, we're thrilled to unveil to you the team that will make up the founding faculty & staff of BASIS Independent McLean. We're pleased to introduce to you Dolores Peck, Learning Expert Teacher at BASIS Independent McLean.

Dolores Peck earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in French Language and Literature in 1982 from Chestnut Hill College. In 1985, she earned a Master of Arts degree in International Economics and International Relations from Johns Hopkins – School of Advanced International Studies and had a career as an anti-dumping trade analyst. During this time, she became curious not only about trade, but about the education systems that nurtured these highly competitive industries.

In 1997, Mrs. Peck created GETS (Gifted Education Time for Students), a humanities curriculum for elementary students. She traveled extensively with her family from 2000-2012, where she gained experience teaching in Italy and England. In 2007, Mrs. Peck began to study Dr. Maria Montessori’s work and her method of guiding students to learn. From 2007-2009, she taught at the Montessori School of McLean. She has developed hands-on learning experiences that bridge abstract concepts to concrete work at Compass HomeSchool Enrichment through her classes, “Hands On Art History” and “Hands On Great Books for Girls.”  Mrs. Peck shares that her “greatest joy is learning alongside my students and watching them succeed.” She “enthusiastically chose BASIS Independent McLean because this school combines my academic interests and my skill in preparing our next generation of entrepreneurs.”

When not at school, Mrs. Peck loves to read historical fiction and tie her readings to museum trips or travel experiences. She also enjoys cooking and entertaining, exploring new food combinations, and seeking different cultural experiences.
