For the second consecutive year, the BASIS Independent McLean team will participate in the Adam Smith Division of the State Championship of the Governor's Challenge in Economics and Personal Finance. Tad B. ’20, Victoria B. ’21, Armin D. ’19, and Ethan H. ’20 will represent BIM in the competition.
All students at BASIS Independent McLean take an economics class before graduating. Participation in this event was driven by Ethan, who found the competition last year and is the student leader of the Econ Club, which started this year.
“I’m glad our students' interest in economics continues to grow,” says economics teacher and adviser Mr. Biemesderfer. “It’s great that are able to participate in this challenge with other interested students in the state.”
The team earned an invitation to the championship round following an online competition conducted by the Virginia Council on Economic Education (VCEE). Regional winners in each division and other high scoring teams were invited to participate in a live championship challenge.
The state championship takes place on April 11 in Richmond. Good luck, Red-Tailed Hawks!
