In a news story called "BASIS.ed to launch a private school in McLean," the Washington Post reported Wednesday on our exciting arrival in the Northern Virginia, Maryland and Washington DC metro area.
Education reporter T. Rees Shapiro quotes Dr. Q. Mark Reford, Vice Chairman, Global Strategy of BASIS Independent Schools: ‘the McLean school’s emphasis on STEM courses will appeal to parents… that desire a TJ-like education for their children in a private-school setting and without the exceptionally slim chances of admission.’
The results of the school's Liberal Arts with a STEM focus program speak for themselves. Recently, two BASIS.ed-managed schools topped The Washington Post’s 2015 America’s Most Challenging High Schools list, as well as U.S. News and World Report’s annual ranking of the top high schools in America.
The McLean location is scheduled to open in Fall 2016 to serve 400 students in preschool through 10th grade in a converted 11-acre corporate campus near the Dulles Toll Road. It will be the third BASIS Independent School, joining its sister schools in Silicon Valley and Brooklyn. Applications will be available August 2015.
