BASIS Independent Schools students continue to prove they are the future leaders of our generation. This year, graduates across our entire network of schools—from New York City and the Washington, D.C. Metro Area to California—achieved notable acceptances to some of the top colleges and universities not only in the U.S., but across the world.
BASIS Independent Schools are characterized by creativity and spirit, and they are driven by best practices from the top educational systems in the world. As our private schools branch out across the U.S. and the world, one secret to maintaining excellence network-wide rests in our central Curriculum Team. These professionals work tirelessly to assess data across schools with a shared goal - to improve student outcomes deliberately, quickly, and meaningfully.
Currently BASIS Independent Schools educate students in Brooklyn, NY; Fremont, CA; McLean, VA; Manhattan, NY; and Silicon Valley, CA. A new campus will open this fall in Bellevue, WA. Our world-acclaimed curriculum taught by Subject Expert Teachers draws families to the schools; however, a key strength that is not as well understood rests in our private school network’s ability and commitment to using data to improve continually, rather than rest on our reputation for excellence, particularly given our rapidly evolving world.
“It is critical that we have a continuity of excellence at BASIS Independent Schools,” said Toby Walker, Vice President of BASIS Independent Schools. “That we hold ourselves to high standards, and that we learn from each other as school leaders and teachers across our network. The data around academic outcomes inform this approach; the collaboration among our teachers and administrators is based in large part on taking advantage of the insights our data provides. We take seriously our responsibility to act on these insights to improve our students’ experience.”
Nearly every week our school leaders field requests from families across the country to build a school near them. Families place a high value on giving their children an innovative, well-rounded education—one that supports accelerated learning, independent thinking, creativity, and critical inquiry from the very first day. The first BASIS Independent Schools opened their doors in Brooklyn and Silicon Valley during the fall of 2014. Now our private school program is well established as offering the highest international level of learning after graduating classes of seniors in California as well as New York City and Washington D.C. metro campuses.
Today we want to share and celebrate network growth from coast to coast:OPENED FALL 2021
“It is critical that we have a continuity of excellence at BASIS Independent Schools,” said Toby Walker, Vice President of BASIS Independent Schools. “That we hold ourselves to high standards, and that we learn from each other as school leaders and teachers across our network. The demand for our program is humbling, and we are committed to making it available to students and families.”
Have you seen your child build a magnificent tower just for it to fall down, or study so hard for a test but not do well on it? We are all familiar with failure and must face it regularly, but when it comes to our children it can be difficult to see them struggle. Enter the desirable traits of resilience and perseverance, as well as the difficult-to-teach skills of critical thinking and problem-solving.
At BASIS Independent Manhattan, we delight in giving students the opportunity to explore problems from new angles, apply their knowledge to the real world, and learn all of this through hands-on work and projects. This type of academic and developmental growth is elucidated by the journey of a PreK-4 student through our spiraling engineering curriculum.
If you google 'Classics', it is defined as the study of the languages, literature, material culture, and history of the societies of the ancient world, together with their influence on later periods and cultures right up to the present day.
This might sound dry to some, but not to anyone who has met our Subject Expert Teacher, Mr. Dome. We sat down with him to discuss his love of the Classics, passion for teaching, and very popular Latin-speaking podcast.
We are excited to be accepting applications for PreK-10 in our Regular Admissions cycle for the 2022-23 school year. Submit your application today!
The admissions process could seem overwhelming or confusing, especially with various components that must be completed by certain dates and deadlines. We have assembled all of the information you need to know in this one blog post so you can get all your questions answered and more easily get started.
First, let's start with a brief primer about us. At BASIS Independent Manhattan, students and Subject Expert Teachers engage in a spiraling liberal arts and sciences curriculum benchmarked to the best education systems in the world. We believe in setting a higher standard for students and promoting self-reliance and accountability in an environment where learning is encouraged and celebrated.
The 2022 Niche school rankings are in and BASIS Independent Schools continue to soar! Since first established, the BASIS Independent Schools network has grown to six campuses—three of which have graduating classes—in locations across New York, Northern Virginia, the Bay Area, and the greater Seattle area. Just over five years later, campuses across our network have achieved impressive national recognition.
BASIS Independent Manhattan opened its doors in 2017 and four years later our growth continues with the expansion to an Upper School campus for our grade 6-12 students. For the first half of this year, Mr. Brandon McNeice (Head of School, Upper) has been busy giving tours, hiring teachers, developing programming, and even selecting desks and chairs. Opening a new campus comes with challenges, but ones that Mr. McNeice is approaching with gratitude and gumption. We dove in from there and asked Mr. McNeice more about his goals, work, and what he envisions for the future.
In the fall of 2021, the BASIS Independent Manhattan Upper School campus building is set to open, which will continue our students’ academic journeys through a complete high school experience. As our rising grade 10 students get closer to their Senior Year, we benefit greatly from a relationship with our sister campus, BASIS Independent Brooklyn, and use them as a model of what future success will look like for us. Not only that, but also we like the collaboration that can benefit all of our students. A very good example of this synergy can be found in a Senior Project conducted by Zihan S. (Class of 2021, BASIS Independent Brooklyn).
BASIS Independent Schools students continue to score impressive admission to some of the world’s best colleges and universities. From the Washington, D.C. Metro Area and New York City to California, students across the BASIS Independent Schools network have proven that even in the face of adversity and adaptation, hard work and commitment can reap incredible results.
Inspired by the blissful feeling of uncovering connections, our blog Eureka! Manhattan is about sharing moments that capture the essence of what it is to be a BASIS Independent student, teacher, administrator, or family.
