As the first day of our inaugural school year approaches, we're thrilled to unveil to you the team that will make up the founding faculty and staff of BASIS Independent Manhattan. We're pleased to introduce to you Dean of Students for grades K-3, Bindia Shah.
Ms. Shah holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Binghamton University and a Master of Science dual certification in Childhood Education and Special education from Fordham University.
She has been teaching in New York City Independent Schools since 2006, primarily at the Cooke Center for Learning and Development. She began her career as a special education teacher at Cooke working with students ranging from four to 12-year-olds and subsequently transitioned into a role as an English language and special education curriculum consultant at Cooke. She also has worked as a math curriculum specialist supporting teachers developing and implementing the appropriate programs for their students.
Ms. Shah’s passion is to make sure that every child is learning beyond their ability. She wants every child to build an excitement for learning and understand their full potential.
In her free time, you might see Ms. Shah exploring Manhattan’s many playgrounds with her two-year-old old son. She has a passion for photography and loves to try out new restaurants.
