As the first day of our inaugural school year approaches, we're thrilled to unveil to you the team that will make up the founding faculty and staff of BASIS Independent Manhattan. We're pleased to introduce to you Subject Expert Teacher in Latin, Classics & World History, Michael Camba.
Though Mr. Camba is a third generation Angeleno with an Azorian heritage, he finds himself preferring New York City to Los Angeles after having moved here with his family in the summer of 2010.
He graduated from Loyola Marymount University (at a time, he says, when Windows 95 was the rage) with a double major in classical civilizations and history. He is a member of Alpha Sigma Nu (National Jesuit Honor Society), Phi Alpha Theta (National History Honor Society) and Eta Sigma Phi (National Classics Honorary Society), having graduated in the top 10% of his class. Mr. Camba is currently a graduate student at Columbia University and Union Theological Seminary pursuing the Dual Master’s Program in Divinity and Social Work.
When not helping students fall in love with ancient history and languages, he can be found driving his wife Johanna and his son Roman crazy with his love of two-star movies and all things Star Wars, plus the less bothersome passion of gardening -- vegetables, not flowers.
