7 Frequently Asked Admissions Questions

1. What are the required materials to complete an application?

+ Online Family Meeting

+ Online or Virtual Entrance Exam (Grades 2 - 9)

+ Online Play Date (PreK - Grade 1)

+ Official Transcripts (Current school year and past two school years)

+ Math and English Teacher recommendations

2.  What will my child be tested on for the entrance exam?

All applicants are required to take an online BASIS Independent Schools Entrance Exam. Our traditional process of in-person testing shifted to an online model during the COVID-19 pandemic. For the 2023-24 Application Cycle, we are offering both in-person and virtual testing options, so families should decide what works best for their child. Our Entrance Exams covers three areas: Math, English/Language Arts, and Writing. The content of these exams is based on the foundational material for the grade students are applying for.

You can read Frequently Asked Questions about our Admissions Entrance Exam.

3. What is a Family Meeting?

A Family Meeting is a 30-45 minute interview with either a member of our Admissions Team or school administration. During this meeting, we would like to get to know your child and family. If both parents are not available, only one parent is required to attend. Students applying to Grade 2 and above must attend this meeting.

4. What is a Play Date?

A Play Date is a play-based assessment for students applying to PreK, Kindergarten, and Grade 1, that provides our teachers, administrators, and admissions staff the opportunity to get to know your child and observe your child’s social-emotional and academic development in a one-on-one setting. Play Dates generally last 20-30 minutes and feature time for our teacher or administrator to get to know your child, followed by an age-appropriate lesson or activity. For the 2023-24 application cycle, we are hosting these play dates virtually. If you prefer an in-person play date, please get in touch with us and we will do our best to make accommodations.

All admissions decisions are made by the Admissions Committee, which includes the Admissions Team and school leadership. They evaluate every applicant on our admissions requirements including the entrance exam, Family Meeting, transcripts, and teacher recommendation letters.

Overall, we look for enthusiastic students who want to be a part of our program, who are willing to work hard, ask questions, help others, and have fun!
