Recently, two of our parents shared with us why they chose BASIS Independent Fremont for their children. Here’s what they had to say:

Did you attend an admissions event? If yes, what did you enjoy about the admissions events?

We attended several Information Sessions and Open Houses. One of the things that struck us was the elaborate length to which these events were planned. We also felt that the BASIS Independent Fremont administration were well-prepared and addressed a lot of the questions that the parents of prospective students had and was very informative.

Some of the highlights for us from the admissions events were:

  • The science labs
  • The difference between a Learning Expert Teacher (L.E.T.) and Subject Expert Teacher (S.E.T.)
  • How BASIS.ed schools compares with other schools in the country and across the globe
  • BASIS.ed students are top performers in PISA
  • College preparation for students

Why did you choose BASIS Independent Fremont? Can you give some evidence-based examples of why BASIS Independent Fremont was the right choice for your family?

Before coming to BASIS Independent Fremont, our kids were in two different private schools. We felt both schools were very rigid, and not receptive to parent feedback. We also felt that the faculty didn’t provide adequate support for the rigorous required homework.

Given the situation we were in and the trials we went through at these two schools, we searched for a system where there would be a free exchange of ideas and feedback. We wanted a school designed for the modern age (like constant e-mail communication with the parents, avenues for parents to interact, etc.)

What attracted us to BASIS Independent Fremont at the outset was:

  • The teachers; the selection process of the teachers, their qualifications and the emphasis on securing their commitment
  • The two teacher model of the LET and SET was a game changer for our younger one where her progress would be constantly nurtured
  • The focus on STEM and their rigorous program from middle school to high school with college prep included was a big differentiating factor
  • And the friendliness and openness of staff—I cannot emphasize how critical this was for us.

Since you have been at BASIS Independent Fremont, what has impressed you the most? Give as many examples as you are able.

Here are a few things that I have seen:

  • Kids are enthusiastic about going to school; they like what they are learning.
  • For my 5th grader, even though the work is considerable, she seems to be on top of her assignments and has developed an independence that I have not seen before.
  • They have already been to their first field trip and are engaged in so many activities at school. They like music and drama.
  • I believe the STEM focus of the school is really showing in the way the kids are focusing on science and math.

If you met someone on the street and they asked you about BASIS Independent Fremont, what would you tell them?

I have already spoken to so many friends and acquaintances about how this school is different from the other schools. At other schools, in addition to the tuition, many parents need to pay for after-school supplemental enrichment programs. At BASIS Independent Fremont, you won’t need to supplement their education with after-school success programs, nor the added expense.

I would also tell them about how great the teachers are, and explain the teacher hiring process and their qualifications—in my mind, that is a big differentiating factor.

Why did you choose BASIS Independent Fremont? Can you give some evidence-based examples of why BASIS Independent Fremont was the right choice for your family?

We want a school that is dedicated to teaching the whole student, to teach life-long learning skills, and a place where our child can grow and succeed. We didn’t like the idea of going to multiple different schools during our child’s career as a student. We want consistency and a rigorous, yet balanced curricula, and this is what BASIS Independent offers. We also are very impressed by the BASIS.ed method; differentiating in the classroom with attention to individualized learning and helping students learn the skills to be responsible and pro-active.

Since you've been at BASIS Independent Fremont, what has impressed you the most?

I love the balanced curricula. It was important for me to have a well-rounded experience. STEM is important, sure, but the arts and humanities are also important. I also appreciate the focus on learning a second language. I equally love that the teachers are experts in their field, they are passionate and that passion transfers to the students. It is a supportive and encouraging environment and I really feel that the staff and faculty listen.

If you met someone on the street and they asked you about BASIS Independent Fremont, what would you tell them?

I would recommend they go to an Open House and see for themselves. I am very happy with BASIS Independent; they help a student be the best they can be. I believe that children rise to the challenges we give them if we support them properly; this is what happens at BASIS Independent Fremont. The curricula requires hard work, but this hard work is balanced and personalized. We believe this is the future of education.

Can you tell me how BASIS Independent Fremont has helped your daughter?

My daughter has made dramatic improvements in effective time management. We love that they teach her to be responsible for her assignments and homework. Teaching our daughter independence and confidence is very important to us. Also, we’ve seen improvements in her ability to focus when doing homework, and to be consistent in her daily routines and following classroom etiquette.
