Class of 2018 College Acceptances

The following blog is repurposed with minor edits from our sister school, BASIS Independent Silicon Valley. Please join with us in congratulating their newest graduating seniors on their many achievements and in wishing them well as they head off to some of the top colleges and universities in the world.

A round of applause for the Class of 2018, please! Our soon-to-be graduates have completed their final year at BASIS Independent Silicon Valley, and we could not be more honored to have had the opportunity to guide them to this pivotal point in their lives.

Not only have these students conquered a rigorous senior year filled with capstone courses, which required a deep dive into high-level content, many of our seniors participated in Senior Projects or AP Research Projects. Throughout it all, they worked hard to find and apply to colleges that they believe will be the best fit for their skills and interests. As a result of their extraordinary efforts—not just this year, but through their entire academic journeys—our Class of 2018 has gained entry to some of the oldest and most selective universities: California Institute of Technology, Princeton University, and Stanford University, just to name a few.

Read on for the complete list, and please help us congratulate our 2018 Bobcats!

Check in with BASIS Independent Silicon Valley: 15 Minutes With College Counselor, Mr. Bojko (plus a Class of 2017 college admissions update!)

It should come as no surprise that this time of year is incredibly busy for college admissions counselors across the world - and our sister school BASIS Independent Silicon Valley's counseling department is no exception. For students, what feels like a mammoth outcome of the last decade plus of their young lives comes to light, and for college counselors like Mr. Bojko, their incredible dedication really pays off as students start to look, with clarity unlike any prior, on what the next few years will look like for them.

All things considered, I was happy to catch Mr. Bojko for 15 minutes this week to get an update on college acceptances thus far and pick his brain on what makes the way BASIS Independent Silicon Valley does college counseling so unique. Mostly here for the college acceptances update? Jump to the bottom of the post.

AH: First, for the bigger-picture questions. Why college counseling?

TB: I finished graduate school in 2001, moved to Japan and got a job working for the Princeton Review, mostly with graduate school admissions. I wasn’t sure how I would like it, honestly, but it ended up being loads of fun. I loved getting immediate access to how people thought about themselves and their lives, especially because in Japanese culture such outward self-reflection is so unusual. Before Japan, I had worked in schools and I eventually started missing the school environment where I would know kids for years and not months, following them through their academic journey. That’s when I moved into college counseling.

BASIS INDEPENDENT SILICON VALLEY CLASS OF 2016: College Acceptances & More

We're proud to share some exciting news out of our sister school, BASIS Independent Silicon Valley, who just last week rounded off their college admissions season! Keep reading for the statistics on this year's college admissions, hot off the press from the BASIS Independent Silicon Valley blog:

SV_Seniors.jpgBelieve it or not, the end of the school year will be here before we know it. Our hallways are buzzing with excitement and anticipation as we get ready to celebrate a big first for us, not just here at our school, but for BASIS Independent Schools as a whole: our first graduating class! This first senior class in Silicon Valley is composed of a driven group of 14 students, since our admissions team was very selective in identifying candidates qualified to enter the high school as upperclassmen given the challenging curriculum.

With our first graduating class comes our first round of college admissions. At our State of the School address in February, we shared with participants some of the preliminary results of the tireless work of our College Counselor, Mr. Chris Wilcox, and our students as they worked together to fulfill college dreams. In their senior year, BASIS Independent Schools students take a daily College Counseling course and place a large focus of their time ensuring they have their best foot forward. We are pleased to share that all college admissions results are in: our very first graduating class has gained admission to some of the top universities in the nation!
