In this series, we sit down with our teachers and ask them about their
experiences teaching at BASIS Independent Fremont, what motivates them, and some other fun questions. Today we talk with Ms. Lizy John, one of our Kindergarten Teaching Fellows.
What do you enjoy the most about teaching at BASIS Independent Fremont?
What I enjoy the most is the flexibility and the freedom to design the curriculum. I believe in creating curriculum that is appropriate to the student’s level. They learn the best when they are challenged the right way. So I tailor the material to excite and challenge the students. I enjoy motivating the children with games and drills.
What do you hope students take away from your classes?
Walk into our Kindergarten classroom and you will
witness students learning about India in their Global Studies unit or developing their reading and writing skills during our reading buddy program. As Kindergarten Lead Teacher Jancy Mundenmaney states, “Our expectations are high and we give students the support through differentiation that allows each student to achieve their greatest potential.” Every day our educators tie the content together across disciplines to build a comprehensive foundation and prepare students for the primary school program.
Inspired by the blissful feeling of uncovering connections, our blog Eureka! Fremont is about sharing moments that capture the essence of what it is to be a BASIS Independent student, teacher, administrator, or family.
