Let's face it: changing schools can be exciting and intimidating. There's so much to think about when it comes to a student's first year at BASIS Independent Brooklyn. You've got a lot of questions, like, "what should I do prepare my student in math?" or, "what extracurriculars might my child
want to participate in?" even "will she like the lunch" We know your child is probably most concerned with things like, "will I make friends?" and "will my teachers be nice?"

Summer Program Spotlight on Astronomy
This week our spotlight series is on one of our science programs, Astronomy, which was developed and is taught by BASIS Independent Brooklyn all-star Mr. Joshua Winter. Astronomy is a full-day program that will give students entering Grades 5-8 the opportunity to learn about the foundation of our planet and the solar system through interactive classroom instruction and exciting field trips.
The program will be held during the first week of BASIS Independent Summer on our Brooklyn campus July 10-14.
We took the opportunity to talk to Mr. Winter to learn more about the programs and hear why he is excited to be part of the summer program.
In addition to her role as the Summer Principal, Ms. Taylor Connor is also the architect of our day camp for students entering PreK4 - Grade 4. Recently we sat down with Ms. Connor, who is part of our full time faculy during the school year, to get her thoughts on her role as our Summer Principal and her vision for our day camp program.
This year, more than 180 students experienced our inaugural summer program in Brooklyn, BASIS Independent Summer. Our 7 week program featured academic preparation in math and English; STEM: robotics, Minecraft, engineering and science exploration; foreign language immersion; and our very popular Traditional Day Camp. Keep reading to learn about highlights from select programs.
As we gear up for our upcoming summer program, we are excited to announce the details for student bus transportation.
BASIS Independent Summer in Brooklyn is thrilled to offer families one of the most innovative and engaging STEM programs in New York City: The History of Medicine. The brainchild of BASIS.ed rock star Mrunali Das who teaches Math and AP Psychology at BASIS Scottsdale, this program takes an interdisciplinary approach to discovering medicine by examining its historical development through the lens of history, philosophy, math, and biology. Advanced, interdisciplinary programs such as this are rarely made available to students entering grades 4-10.
Inspired by the blissful feeling of uncovering connections, our blog Eureka! Brooklyn is about sharing moments that capture the essence of what it is to be a BASIS Independent student, teacher, administrator, or family.
