BK_Summer_Camp_Paint.jpgOn Sunday April 10, BASIS Independent Summer held its first-ever camp fair in Brooklyn! Dozens of families attended this informational and interactive event held on camp at BASIS Independent Brooklyn. Summer instructors representing traditional day camp, language immersion, English, and science spoke with parents and children about their respective programs. To truly bring our summer program to life, families were also treated to demonstrations, face-painting, games and even some delicious snacks courtesy of our passionate instructors. Most excitingly, perhaps, is the fact that all families who had registered prior to the camp fair received their official summer t-shirt!

To showcase the summer program to families, Spanish teacher Lilian Arzate discussed her goals for the program with families (over some pretty great guacamole!), while Minecraft teachers Steve D’Amato and Rene Thorne gave families a chance to join their virtual world with a Minecraft demonstration. In addition to meeting the teachers, parents had a chance to meet and have in-depth conversations with BASIS Independent Summer Director Matthew Beller and Summer Principal Lanesha Pugh, about what makes BASIS Independent Summer a unique, special summer experience.

BK_Summer_Camp_Sci.jpgAs always, when we host new events or launch new programs, parent feedback is invaluable in helping us ensure we are giving parents the information they want or need. One parent, Nicole Turner, mother of incoming kindergartener James, registered for programs during the camp fair was was eager to share her feedback. She commented, “The camp fair really gave me the chance to understand the summer program in a way I couldn’t, without first meeting the teachers. The demonstrations and the conversations with the teachers and staff brought the program to life for me.” After completing her registration Mrs. Turner went on to say “I feel so lucky to have found a school like this for my son”. Thanks for your feedback, Mrs. Turner!

All in all, we'll consider this event a success worth repeating. Thank you to all of our participants. We're excited for what is shaping up to be the best summer ever. If we didn't catch you on Sunday, we hope to see you at next year's camp fair. It is not too late to register for this summer. Early registration ends today, April 15th (receive 5% off all programs by entering code BKEARLY) and registration for summer programming closes May 15th.
