We were so excited by the response we saw when we announced our High School Merit Scholarship program. It is wonderful to speak with students interested in "throwing their hat in the ring" and are finally ready to release the WHO, WHAT, WHERE, WHEN, and HOW of this opportunity:

WHO is eligible? Students currently enrolled at BASIS Independent Brooklyn in grades 8 and 9 as well as students who are applying or have applied to BASIS Independent Brooklyn for grades 9 and 10 for the fall 2016 school year.

WHAT is required for consideration? A select number of Merit Scholarships will be awarded to students based on their performance on our Merit Scholarship Exam and demonstrated financial need, plus an optional personal contribution. A personal contribution is anything that allows us to get to know you, and it is entirely up to you what you share with us. It could be a portfolio, a video, a piece of writing, a project you are really proud of, a picture of your collection of medals from your swim team - think outside the box!

WHERE & WHEN do students fulfill what is required for consideration? Mark your calendars with these key dates:

Merit Scholarship Exam: February 20 at 10 AM. We are offering one group testing date for the Merit Scholarship. Please make all effort to free your schedule for this day. If you have religious reasons for not being able to attend, please let us know and we will happily arrange an alternative.

Financial Documentation Submission Deadline: February 12 at 11:59 PM. We use a third party, Smart Tuition Aid, to determine a family's need for financial aid. Please read our introduction to Smart Tuition Aid here: Introduction to Smart Tuition Aid. For details on the submission process, and requirement, please download, save, and read this document for your reference throughout the process: Smart Tuition Aid Instructions

Applications without submitted financial documents will not be considered.

HOW do we let you know we're interested in this opportunity? Incoming students must submit an application and make certain to check off that you are interested in the Merit Scholarship program by January 20 at 11:59 PM, which is our regular admissions deadline. If you are a currently enrolled family and are interested in having your child take the Merit Scholarship Exam, RSVP by February 5 to Brooklyn-Admissions@BASISindependent.com. If you've already applied, to confirm your child is attending the February 20 testing date please write to Brooklyn-Admissions@BASISindependent.com

Our next post will be all about the Merit Scholarship Exam.
