The college placement results for the Class of 2021 have arrived!

BASIS Independent Schools students continue to score impressive admission to some of the world’s best colleges and universities. From the Washington, D.C. Metro Area and New York City to California, students across the BASIS Independent Schools network have proven that even in the face of adversity and adaptation, hard work and commitment can reap incredible results.

The pandemic uprooted school and learning in nearly every possible way. Students moved from classrooms to screens as remote learning became semi-permanent, changing everything from instruction and attendance to testing and homework. And if the resilience of our students to not merely face these new challenges, but to embrace and overcome them, demonstrates even a fraction of their spirits, positivity, and endurance, then we are undoubtedly confident their futures are brighter than we can even try to conceive.

“We could not be more proud of the Class of 2021 and their achievements over the last year,” said Matt Dick, President of BASIS Independent Schools. “They tackled virtual learning amid months steeped with other outside challenges with a vigor that reflects their individual and collective force. The college search process has further honed the impressive character of each individual within our student body, forged from years of learning, discovering, and creating. We are honored to soon call them BASIS Independent Alumni, and we cannot wait to see what they do next.”

College Preparation at BASIS Independent Schools

Students at BASIS Independent Schools are uniquely positioned for entry into the world’s top colleges by design. First, the accelerated, well-rounded BASIS Curriculum is coupled with Subject Expert Teachers who not only have deep expertise in the subjects they teach, but also who are genuinely invested in the success of each student. Second, BASIS Independent Schools offers dedicated college preparation through a comprehensive approach to college counseling starting as early as grade 9.

Throughout the High School Program, students engage one-on-one with their College Guidance Counselor, as well as take college counseling boot camps. Then, beginning senior year, students participate in a daily college counseling course for the first two trimesters where they explore college and university options based on their interests and skills. During this course, our College Guidance Coordinators discuss strategies for creating individualized application packages, review college essays and help students’ hone their writing skills, and even conduct mock interviews meant to reflect the application process. Our schools also host visits from college reps who share information about specific colleges, academic programs, and more.

All of this enables our counselors to understand each of our students on a singular level—from their personal academic strengths to the extracurricular passions that have shaped them through the years—which provides a foundation from which they can write an impactful letter of recommendation. It is also key to supporting students (and parents) and helping them stay productive and confident through the entire application process, which can be overwhelming.
