As the first day of our inaugural school year approaches, we're thrilled to unveil to you the team that will make up the founding faculty and staff of BASIS Independent Manhattan. We're pleased to introduce to you 4th Grade Learning Expert Teacher, Kimm Pacheco.
In 2014, Ms. Pacheco graduated from Southern New Hampshire University with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education: General and Special Education on a Presidential Scholarship.
After graduating, Ms. Pacheco was a 4th Grade Mathematics and Science teacher in a private school in Queens for three years, and continues to be a Mathematics teacher in a summer STEM academy for children ages 8-14.
In 2017, she graduated from Brooklyn College with a Master’s degree in Childhood Education: Earth and Environmental Sciences and received the Fannie K. and Harold Beyer Scholarship.
As a 4th Grade Learning Expert Teacher, Ms. Pacheco’s goal is to “provide an encouraging and joyful learning environment, while building each individual student’s strengths and instilling a love of lifelong learning.“
“I was initially drawn to the BASIS Independent community because of its strong focus on STEM education. I am energized by its dedication to the celebration of diversity and cultural awareness. In college, I participated in an Alternative Break program in South Africa where I helped rebuild a home in a small village that was deeply affected by apartheid.”
Outside of the classroom, charity, music, and the arts are very important aspect of Ms. Pacheco’s life. “Every month I strive to make a donation to those in need. I have been playing the viola since the 4th grade and participated in the orchestra of my high school’s musicals for four years. I enjoy attending concerts and musicals, as well as trying new foods whenever possible.”
